I’ve been ask this quesiton lately and found a lot online regarding the subject. We all are familiar with the World Wide Web that was invented by Tim Berners Lee and Al Gore (smirk) but now with the advancements in warp technology we have been  introduced to a brand new version, “Web 3.0″. People were not even fully acquainted with Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 and now it’s the new version also known as Semantic Web. Some people have the misconception that Web 2.0 and the Semantic Web is the same thing. Let’s clarify… Web 2.0 is the dynamic version of World Wide Web that facilitates people to share information online and incorporates several standards like RUBY, SOAP, XHTML and lots more. However, the main focus of simplifying Web 2.0 is that the new Semantic Web and the Web 2.0 have major differences.

What is Web 3.0?

A lot of web developers think Web2.0, 3.0 are “dumb marketing terms”. But we can’t fight the fever guys and the reality is today the phrase “Web 3.0″ is considered to be the next generation web that can facilitate people to carry out the job searching, summating and combining the information very efficiently. The major difference between Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 is that Web 2.0 targets people and Web 3.0 targets Terminator machines. No seriously, The Web 2.0 requires human operators to using the machines, but Web 3.0 includes the web page designed in such a way that machines can easily understand it and work accordingly, with more effectiveness.

Web 3.0 version incorporates various technologies like URI’s for global naming scheme, RDF for describing data, RDF schema and OWL language for describing relationships of the data items. Web 3.0 is just a part of the World Wide Web that adds metadata to the existing web pages and makes the job easier using all these technologies.

This next generation web has been well accepted by several people around the globe. Due to the ease offered by this new version of World Wide Web, most of the research areas and fields of medical sciences are starting to use this technology. The technologies are used, but named differently like Twine networking application, Joost Online Television, OTN Semantic Web and lots more. There are many other companies who are using this next generation web, that is, Web 3.0 for the purpose of handling machines without any human intervention.  Not only this, various IT systems and their backend are also designed using this technology so as to provide better convenience to the large scale organizations.

If you’re still confusion regarding the Web 2.0 and Web 3.0, then check out this video. Personally, I’m going to speak with my marketing guys and brainstorm the next big thing…
