World Cup Recap | 32 Countries, 1 Cup, a World of Possibility

Wow. I actually had to rewind several times to make sure I was not seeing things and misunderstanding the announcers for the RSA vs. Mexico game.
Nope. He certainly did whine for the rest of the first half about that offside call. He truly thought the Mexico players were onside…
Really?? I know the offside rule is controversial and difficult for newbies to the sport. I am constantly having conversations with parents, players, and new coaches about the interpretations of the rule and the best way to understand the rule. For the World Cup, though, I would expect my announcers to know what the heck they are doing!
I get it if you gaff at first, see the replay, and then say “Oops, the keeper was out, there was only 1 guy on the goal line. My bad, nice call ref.”
He spent several minutes continuing to perpetuate his ignorance on the rule!
I thought I only get numb listening to Dave Lapham do Bengals games. I would hate to have to mute World Cup games because the announcer doesn’t know something like offsides…
ESPN, let Ruud Gullit do the games, he knows the rules. He is also one of my fave players from the greatest team of all time- ‘88 European Champion Netherlands (The Orange Crush).
